Some years ago I was talking to George Beverly Shea, the \u201csinging voice\u201d of Billy Graham crusades, between shots of a project we worked on together. He told me a story, or remembered a story he had heard, about a husband and wife, riding in their car on a trip. The wife noticed the space between them on the front seat and asked, a little sadly, \u201cDo you remember when we were dating and we used to sit real close together?\u201d<\/p>\n
Her husband, behind the wheel, looked at the space on the seat, looked at her, and asked, \u201cWho moved?\u201d<\/p>\n
Most of us, believers in Christ, had a period when we fell in love with Him \u2013 sharing the experience of a fresh faith; thirsting for the Word; the desire for close fellowship with other followers of Jesus.<\/p>\n
It frequently happens later in our \u201cwalk\u201d that we have crises of all sorts. Yes, the devil might attack us more; and the skeptical world is determined to challenge us. But ironically, as our faith matures we often lose that vital, on-fire, passionate faith.<\/p>\n
Has the hunger been satisfied? God forbid. Was that \u201cfirst blush\u201d of belief counterfeit? God forbid. Have we checked all the boxes of a full knowledge of the Gospel? God forbid; and that is not possible anyway.<\/p>\n
If we remember any of God\u2019s promises we know that Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He is our ever-present strength in times of trouble. He is the author and finisher of our faith. He is the image of the Father. He is the Lamb of God, Who gave Himself for our sins. He is our Savior.<\/p>\n
